Genocide – Over six decades of butchering Baloch by Pakistan continues

It is a land running red with the blood of innocents. From April 1948 when Pakistan annexed Balochistan it has ground its military boots into the faces of Baloch drawing blood and killing thousands of them. The litany of announcements of missing people some found dismembered and others tortured to death and the remaining never to be seen again, carries on but is rarely heard because people have become deaf by the gunfire. In this dusty land of great natural resources Baloch live on the edge of sanity. There are no rules, simply guns. There are no laws, just personalised justice courtesy the Pakistani Frontier Corps.

In the words of  Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani, who attended the proceedings of a recent Supreme hearing into “missing Baloch”, he told journalists outside the courtroom that “small things happened here and there but generally things were fine” and that he did not want to malign his province.  Raisani played down the butchering ordered by him by saying that the FC did not take orders from him and acted ONLY when it was called in by the provincial government.

The head of the provincial government is Raisani. And it is he who directly instructs the FC to carry out the  butchering of the Baloch.

The harsh words of the Supreme Court of Pakistan against the government for not reigning in the  Frontier Corps in the last nine months sounds like a cheap joke. The killings have been going on since 1948. Now that is not nine months but over sixty years!

Crimes against humanity are being committed by the Pakistani Government and its murderous louts in the Frontier Corps.

The UN must be called in to investigate and arrest those involved in the genocide in Balochistan and to bring them to face justice at the International Criminal Court.

It is heartening to note that the three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry that had taken up the law and order situation in the province on a petition filed by Hadi Shakeel, a former president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, has resolved to continue to pursue the matter regardless of the problems faced by it.

Balochistan was an independent country in 1947. It was invaded and annexed in 1948. Pakistan has occupied and controlled it since then with looting of its natural resources, torture and murder. The real name for the Frontier Corps is murder incorporated!

Bring these butchers to international justice, now!
