Occupy Wall Street – Memories of Zabriskie Point

I have been following the “Occupy Wall Street” protest by American citizens and it has stirred a few memories of Zabriskie Point…an America I knew and fell in love with in the late sixties…a people whose protest ended the Vietnam War and created so much change. ..I feel now the rumblings of yet another protest that could hopefully make a change to the existing political rancidness that prevails all over this beautiful nation.

May change come and may it come for the better through peaceful protests and non-cooperation with government.

President Evo Morales how could you do this to your own people?

Amazon Watch
Dear Mark,

We know from recent history when indigenous peoples stand up and defend their rights, they face the risk of violent repression. That is exactly what we saw, sadly, in Bolivia this past Sunday.

VIDEO: Stop the Police Crack-Down! Respect Indigenous Rights!

Join Amazon Watch, tell Bolivia:
Stop police crack-down! Respect indigenous rights!

Since his inauguration in early 2006, Bolivia’s President Evo Morales has cultivated an international image as a staunch defender of indigenous peoples’ rights and of Mother Earth. His government incorporated international indigenous rights norms into the 2009 constitution and hosted an international climate conference in 2010, among other actions.

In the last month, however, indigenous communities from the Isiboro Sécure Indigenous Territory(TIPNIS) have been marching in protest against a planned road that would pierce through the heart of their Amazonian reserve. Tensions have risen in recent weeks as they walked hundreds of kilometers from the Amazonian lowlands toward La Paz, culminating last Sunday with a violent police eviction of camping marchers.

The scene was reminiscent of excessive use of police force against indigenous marchers in neighboring countries. Given that Bolivia’s President is himself of indigenous background, however, we have higher expectations. The government of Evo Morales should exemplify full respect for the rights of local indigenous peoples to free, prior, and informed consent around major development projects that are going to gravely impact their environment and way of life.

Of course, I am shocked to see how the marchers have been tear-gassed, fired on with rubber bullets, and beaten by Bolivian police. Join me: Send a letter to the Bolivian Minister of Foreign Affairs, telling him concrete action is desperately needed if President Morales wants to maintain his international image of a rights defender.

For TIPNIS and the defense of Bolivian indigenous peoples’ rights.

Urgent message for Julian Assange

Dear Julian,

This is an urgent request for help in understanding the recent skullduggery that occurred at the UN when the issue of Statehood for Palestine was presented by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas.

Here is what I saw and heard thanks to the breathless media coverage.

– Indian PM supports the formation of a Palestinian State with its capital in East Jerusalem. (Israel has close cultural and defence ties with India. It is India’s second largest arms supplier).

– Indian PM warmly greets Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines to discuss outstanding issues between the two countries. And this is after the Iranian President’s charming speech at the UN. The previous US Embassy Cables leak from New Delhi reveals the double standards of our government. LINK. So what was this meeting really about? Was India acting as a go between, US-IRAN?

– Indian PM’s interesting speech that highlighted the “ground realities” with emphasis on the expansion of the UN Security Council (Permanent Membership – India has been waiting in the backroom for this prized but deserving membership), etc.

I make this request because thanks to your previous endeavours Indian citizens were given front row seats to the two faced actions of their own government.

If some of your mates could please mooch around and sniff out some tidbits of edible data that reveals the “real” truth behind the above actions it would be most appreciated. And if anything is found kindly share it with the Indian media.

Warm regards and keep up the good work,

Indian National media promotes casteism for a profit.

All major newspapers, for example, have a special “Matrimonial Section”. This section is divided under caste, religion etc. Here are some samples of advertisements (edited for privacy of the advertiser) in the venerable Times of India:

Brahmin (heading)

  • High status …based business family…girl, slim beautiful fair earns INRS…. lacs per year.
  • Brahmin boy… seeks qualified beautiful girl.
  • …based Hindu family seeks qualified tall fair pretty girl…
  • …for …girl issueless divorcee tall fair and beautiful…

Cosmopolitian (new caste? Show me the money?)

  • For sincere handsome teetotaler…caste no bar.

The list is endless…

In most, if not all national dailies, casteism appears to be the ‘preferred’ modus operandi for matrimonials. You will observe from the adverts that those seeking partners are all tall, fair and educated (fair being the operative word here). Could it be that a new caste is emerging from this reprehensible system – the arrogant Indian Middle Class with their Lego homes, flashy cars and abhorrence for anything rural?

The lower caste –  Harijans (untouchables) are converting to Islam and in some cases Christianity; But even within these religions there are divides of haves and have nots. Review of the seating at religious functions will explain this.

And there are also the Dalits who are basically Buddhists (?).

The segregation airtight. The monetary gains of converting often comes to light and quickly but with much fanfare the hapless lower castes are hustled to convert back to Hinduism with money and other non-essential goodies like cooking utensils and cheap clothing.

India continues to promote itself as Incredible India. Yes, the tagline suits our repressive and racist caste system. Consider this, even the Indian National Media appears to be supporting the system. Promoting the system to even newer heights of segregation of castes all for a quick buck. You know in these trying times nothing is free!

Our politicians play the caste card at all elections. And the gullible public (the fringe folk) are paid money to vote for such and such party. The Election Commission of India has worked tirelessly to weed out this culture…

A highly respected national television station, in the run up to any election, broadcasts live coverage of politicians eating and living with the untouchables. The politicians want desperately to show the nation that there are no caste barriers; and they do this because these poor wretched people are an important vote bank.

And the Indian national media plays along promoting casteism and earning a quick buck. This is shameful.

I leave you with these words from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Our dead is better than their dead?

Troy Davis killed one man and was executed because that man was an American citizen. US soldiers kill three Afghans for sport, keep photos and body parts as trophies and these despicable animals get 7 years in jail…because they had ONLY murdered unarmed Afghans.

I suppose our dead is better than their dead.

This is sickening and one wonders why in hell do people even bother to seek justice when it is selectively employed. Lets just kill all we hate and get over with it once and for all.

The soldiers, from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, south of Seattle, were arrested in Afghanistan last year after prosecutors said they killed the three men for sport in January, February and May of 2010.

Prosecutors say that in addition to the murders by the group, formerly known as the 5th Stryker Brigade but renamed the 2nd Stryker Brigade, some of the defendants kept body parts severed from the corpses and photos as war trophies.

Latest FBI News – Domestic Terrorism Militia Extremism

Domestic Terrorism
Focus on Militia Extremism

Seized cache of guns
A cache of guns seized from militia extremists.

Last March, nine members of an extremist militia group were charged in Michigan with seditious conspiracy and attempted use of weapons of mass destruction in connection with an alleged plot to attack law enforcement and spark an uprising against the government.

According to the federal indictment, the nine individuals planned to kill a law enforcement officer and then use bombs to attack the caravan of cars taking part in the subsequent funeral procession, hoping that this violence would incite a larger armed conflict with authorities. Fortunately, the FBI and the Michigan State Police intervened and took the subjects into custody before they could carry out their alleged plot.

It’s just one example of the dangers posed by so-called militia extremists—the latest topic in our series to educate the nation on domestic terror threats that the FBI investigates today. Previous stories have focused on anarchist extremistseco-terrorists/animal rights extremistslone offenders, and sovereign citizen extremists.

Who they are. Like many domestic terrorism groups, militia extremists are anti-government. What sets them apart is that they’re often organized into paramilitary groups that follow a military-style rank hierarchy. They tend to stockpile illegal weapons and ammunition, trying illegally to get their hands on fully automatic firearms or attempting to convert weapons to fully automatic. They also try to buy or manufacture improvised explosive devices and typically engage in wilderness, survival, or other paramilitary training.

Who and what they target. They usually go after the government itself—including law enforcement personnel, representatives of the courts, and other public officials, along with government buildings. When caught, most militia extremists are charged with weapons, explosives, and/or conspiracy violations.

What they believe in. Many militia extremists view themselves as protecting the U.S. Constitution, other U.S. laws, or their own individual liberties. They believe that the Constitution grants citizens the power to take back the federal government by force or violence if they feel it’s necessary. They oppose gun control efforts and fear the widespread disarming of Americans by the federal government.

Militia extremists often subscribe to various conspiracy theories regarding government. One of their primary theories is that the United Nations—which they refer to as the New World Order, or NWO—has the right to use its military forces anywhere in the world (it doesn’t, of course). The extremists often train and prepare for what they foresee as an inevitable invasion of the U.S. by United Nations forces. Many militia extremists also wrongly believe that the federal government will relocate citizens to camps controlled by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or force them to undergo vaccinations.

One important note: simply espousing anti-government rhetoric is not against the law. However, seeking to advance that ideology through force or violence is illegal, and that’s when the FBI and law enforcement become involved.

What is the FBI doing to combat the militia extremism threat? In addition to our lawful use of sophisticated investigative techniques, we’ve expanded our work with other federal agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and with our state and local partners. And we use intelligence and analysis to help identify gaps in our knowledge, emerging tactics and trends, and effective investigative strategies.

As always, the combination of intelligence, coordinated law enforcement efforts, and an informed public is the most effective way to counter the threats posed by domestic extremists.

After Troy Davis – what about the murderers of the My Lai massacre?

The My Lai Massacre was the mass murder of 347–504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam on March 16,1968, conducted by “Charlie” company, 1st battalion, 20th infantry, 11th infantry brigade, of the America Division, United States Army. All of the victims were civilians and most were women, children (including babies), and elderly people. Many of the victims were raped, beaten, tortured, and some of the bodies were found mutilated.

While 26 US soldiers were initially charged with criminal offenses for their actions at Mỹ Lai, only 2nd Lt. William Calley, a platoon leader in “Charlie” company, was convicted of killing 22 villagers. Originally given a life sentence, he served three and a half years under house arrest.

The Death Penalty must apply to all US citizens including those in the armed forces that rape, torture and kill innocent people in other countries. This is also murder.

Troy Davis was executed for a crime under suspect evidence. There has been numerous protests for one man.

But how many Americans have been so vociferous about the atrocities of their own army in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many horror stories continue to surface.

We call ourselves a civilised society. We are no more civilised than suicide bombers.

One law for ourselves and no law for others.

This is shameful.

He has been travelling for nearly seven years now ruminating on and capturing  the  word  and the embedded subtle nuances of a life, a life free of credit cards, bank accounts and the odd financial rigmarole…a  comforting disconnection from the ebb and flow of the daily grind.

Everything seemed and appeared to be in sync until he met a woman who stole his heart, ran away and then ran over it with disinterest. Nothing in his fragile life could deal with such an accident and hence death came knocking with the grim reaper grinning like a Cheshire cat.

What is to be done?

What is to be achieved?

What is to be left for those that thrive on delusion?

But a word, a gesture to be remembered and a sepia print of days gone by.

Goodbye is such a beautiful word…it encompasses everything…

… except a lie.

Breaking news – Stop Troy Davis execution says Former FBI Director William S Sessions

I find this all very hypocritical. The US Govt has been instrumental in torturing and killing many innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan and its soldiers don’t get the death penalty.

And what happened to those that killed innocent Vietnamese? Here’s what happened to them?

The My Lai Massacre (Vietnamesethảm sát Mỹ Lai [tʰɐ̃ːm ʂɐ̌ːt mǐˀ lɐːj]English pronunciation: /ˌmiːˈlaɪ/ ( listen), also /ˌmiːˈleɪ, ˌmaɪˈlaɪ/,[1]Vietnamese: [mǐˀlɐːj]) was the mass murder of 347–504 unarmed citizens in South Vietnam on March 16, 1968, conducted by “Charlie” company, 1st battalion, 20th infantry, 11th infantry brigade, of the Americal Division, United States Army. All of the victims were civilians and most were women, children (including babies), and elderly people. Many of the victims were raped, beaten, tortured, and some of the bodies were found mutilated.[2]

The massacre took place in the hamlets of Mỹ Lai and My Khe of Sơn Mỹ village during the Vietnam War.[3][4] While 26 US soldiers were initially charged with criminal offenses for their actions at Mỹ Lai, only 2nd Lt. William Calley, a platoon leader in “Charlie” company, was convicted of killing 22 villagers. Originally given a life sentence, he served three and a half years under house arrest.

Whether Troy Davis is guilty or not the Death Penalty should never be an option, Never.

I pray that Former FBI Chief William S. Sessions appeal will stay this execution.

An urgent Letter of Appeal to Presidential Candidate Rick Perry

You will get the Republican Ticket Mr.Perry but there is still some unfinished business in the Lone Star State.

Consider this:

There are 300 people waiting on Death Row. Many among them are Black.

Do you agree with the Death Penalty, as a Christian?

Do you really think that putting another human being to death is going to change the crime they did?

If you really want to become the 45th President of this great country the United States of America you will have to review these issues and put on hold all executions.

As you probably know, we are in the age of extreme violence, hatred and genocide with war mushrooming across the globe.

And in this scenario would you want to destroy more life?

Stay all executions, announce this as soon as possible, and give life a chance.

Show the world your Christian values, values that Jesus Christ spoke about over 2000 years ago.
